Drug Utilization Assessment

The Drug Utilization Advisory (DUA) provides an unbiased third party recommendation of the future lifetime prescription drug needs for the claim. It is a very useful tool for those claims with high prescription drug costs, over-utilization or drug abuse. It is an ideal product for claims that are close to settling as well as for claims where settlement may be years down the line. The report identifies area where changes/reductions are justified thus leading to cost savings.

A licensed pharmacist prepares the report in house. The DUA provides a summary of previous drug utilization history as well as the current course of treatment. The report then provides recommendations for the future lifetime drug regimen. All changes to the current plan are based on best practice guidelines and provide the justification for the revised course of treatment. The DUA includes spreadsheets of the current prescription medication usage and the new recommended medication regimen. The annual and lifetime costs are calculated and the total savings of utilizing the recommendations are provided.
